5 Things to do During the Writers Strike That Don't Involve Killing Yourself/Others

Dagonet

dagonetNo new TV shows? This is just like that movie "I Am Legend," when everyone on the planet dies, so Will Smith has no choice but to watch "Shrek" over and over again. It's a mad house! A mad house! Yep, it's exactly like that movie... except in the case of the writers strike, despite how it may feel, it's actually not the end of the world. Here are a few non-death-inducing ways to piddle your way through the strike. (That's all I could think of.)

1. Put together a puppet show based on your favorite TV series. I did one called the "X-Files Puppet Extravanganza." Making Scully and Mulder out of socks was surprisingly easy. Putting the Fluke man puppet on my left foot, however, prove extraordinarily challenging.

2. Construct cardboard TV-shaped frames for all your friends’ faces. If your friends miss fresh TV as much as you do, they will have no problem wearing this apparatus. Be a friend and reciprocate.

3. Rig everything in your house so it's remote controlled. The easiest things to set up with remote capability include eltronic devices like stereos, clocks, and computers. Creating and installing an effective remote control for your cat is a bit of a challenge. But it's doable.

4. Host an “Awards Show” theme party.  If you get ambitious enough, you could have a red carpet, pretentious outfits, and various groups interpretive dance. Every few minutes you could pair people up and make them go on stage where they have to pretend to like each other for upwards of two minutes.

5. Support the writers? Find out more here.
