Good Idea: Someone should do a remake of that movie “Ishtar.” It doesn’t matter that it was one of the biggest box office failures of all time. You put enough Zach Braff and Coldplay in that thing, and you’ve got yourself a Hollywood blockbuster. Bad Idea: Probably the worst cover in musical history is Sheryl Crow’s version of “Sweet Child of Mine.” Either that or Madonna’s version of “American Pie.” If the two of them ever joined forces and went on tour with a cover of “Stairway to Heaven,” they could actually unravel the fabric of the universe. (Side note: Apparently, this scenario is President Bush’s next exit strategy for Iraq.) Random Thought: Every so often I hear someone say, “If you put an infinite number of monkeys in front of an infinite number of typewriters for an infinite amount of time, they’ll produce all the great works of literature, even Hamlet.” This expression dates back almost 2,000 years, although the typewriter reference came in later. And after all that time, all I can think is, what kind of lazy asshole is in charge of these monkeys? If you give me fifty monkeys, some office space, and fifty typewriters, I’ll have you that literature by Labor Day. |
