What is Bosworth Magazine? Bosworth Magazine is a monthly online humor magazine founded in April 2007 by University of Iowa graduate student Matt Lavin. Describing his inspiration, Lavin says:

"When it came time to put the magazine together, I wanted to delve as far into the realm of absurdity as I could. The magazine is meant to feel like a cross between 'Deep Thoughts,' 'The Muppet Show,' and the 19th-century version of 'Punch.'"

Who is Bosworth? Bosworth is a cartoon character. He's the figurehead of the magazine and the author of a monthly column, Bosworth Takes a Stand." For more information about him, you can read the staff biographies or consult a full list of his past columns.

Who runs this dog and pony show? Matt Lavin, a reasonably normal guy, is the creator/editor of Bosworth. He is currently working toward a PhD in English at the University of Iowa. You can read more about his life and the process of putting Bosworth together by reading his blog.

Is this supposed to be satire? News parody? Where is all your "fake news"? Yes, it's supposed to be satire .. and hopefully funny. Simultaneously, it's not meant to be your average fake news publication. Satire, however, does not begin and end with sarcastic headlines, contrary to popular belief. Merriam-Webster defines satire as "trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly." Bosworth is meant to embody a general satirical tone. It's also a parody in the sense that many of the articles, columns, and editorials are driectly imitating and making fun of the mainstream media.
